Plainfield is on the cutting edge of a movement of adaptive reuse of traditional historic buildings, giving a former landmark church an exciting and vibrant new life as the Plainfield Performing Arts Center, also known as P-PAC.  Plainfield's cultural mission is to enrich the lives of people who live and work in Plainfield through exhibitions, programs, events, and public arts that build a healthy community and contribute to the economic and cultural vibrancy of our City. We are committed to using arts-based initiatives for radical change, justice, healing, and empowering our residents. .P-PAC's concert hall, theater, multi-use studios, dance studio, gallery, and reception room are available for low-cost, short-term rentals by non-profits organizations, residents and non-residents

In May 2019, the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield (FUSP gave its historic 1891 building and grounds to the City of Plainfield.  The beautiful Gothic Revival building is in the Van Wyck Historic District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. FUSP elected to give their cherished structure to the City during the City's 150th Anniversary year acknowledging the congregation's commitment to justice and culture and the dedication of Mayor Adrian O. Mapp and his administration to innovation and growth.  The City Department of Health and Social Services supervises P-PAC, reinforcing that arts, health, and workforce development are vital parts of a healthy, thriving Plainfield.
